Memorial Day 2012!

As we celebrate Memorial Day this year, let’s take a moment to remember those in our nation’s service that died for our country. Memorial Day, once known as Decoration Day, originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings. Over two dozen cities and towns claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. It is not important who was the very first, what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division, but rather, reconciliation. It is about coming together to honor those who gave their all.
